ABER Instruments Biomass Monitor
ABER Instruments Biomass Monitor Direct measurement of viable cell count in real-time at both laboratory and industrial scales
ABER Biomass Monitor is a renowned brand for online monitoring of biomass or viable cells. We can now offer the ABER Biomass Monitor as an integrated part of Applikon ez-Control.
Biomass measurement is a "real-time" measurement of viable cells at both laboratory and industrial scales. The combination with Applikon's ez-Control process control system offers a unique opportunity for accurate control of biomass concentration in individual reactors.
By integrating the biomass monitor into ez-Control, Applikon is the first company in the world to offer a process controller that precisely controls pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, foam or media level, agitation, and, most importantly, viable biomass. Furthermore, the use of BioXpert XP software enhances the system by offering FDA 21 CFR part 11 compliance, allowing use in CGMP validated environments.
We will offer the ABER Biomass Monitor as an "add-on" package. This package can also be connected to already delivered ez-Control systems, although a minor firmware upgrade is required.
How the ABER Biomass Monitor Works:
Organisms cultivated in bioreactors, such as mammalian or insect cells, yeast or mold, and bacteria with intact plasma membranes, can be considered to behave like small capacitors under the influence of an electric field. The non-electrically conductive membranes allow for a buildup of charge. The capacitance can be measured and is different for each organism type and directly proportional to the concentration of viable cells.
The ABER Biomass Monitor responds only to viable cells and is not sensitive to cells with damaged cell membranes, media, gas bubbles, or waste products.
